During Marzia's Scanography - the Art of Scanner Photography Workshops in Lisbon, Portugal, you can experiment with the "Scanography" technique and discover your own unique aesthetic preferences.

You are going to create a digital piece of art and learn how to use the scanner software to obtain high-quality images and specific color effects.

"Scanography" is a form of art that involves using a flatbed scanner as a camera to produce digital images of objects or still life set-ups, often including everyday items, natural materials, or found objects.

By adjusting the scanner's settings and placing the object on the glass, you can capture fine details like the veins of a leaf or the textures of a piece of bark.

A unique aspect of "Scanography" is the ability to create surreal effects with vibrant colors by moving objects on the scanner glass. This technique produces dreamy and abstract images, resulting in a unique and dynamic composition.

In summary, "Scanography“ is a valuable addition to the world of photography, offering a creative and fascinating way to capture visually stunning and conceptually rich images.

Marzia provides 2 scanner and 2 laptops to share. Feel free to bring your own laptop and scanner if you want to. She also provides the objects to scan such as papers, leaves, flowers, textiles and lights.

To pay homage to the Luso-Italian tradition, Marzia serves you tiramisu accompanied by Porto wine. In addition, there’s an assortment of beverages such as water, juice, and dehydrated fruits/vegetables available to enjoy during the workshop.

Visual artist Marzia Braggion is “creating art to uplift humanity“.

She was born in the 80's in the Italian countryside, as the child of a seamstress and an artisan jewelry maker. Following also the artistic path, Marzia attended Drama, Art and Music Studies at the University of Bologna.

She moved later to Portugal, attracted by its beautiful natural landscapes.
"I grabbed the opportunity to live abroad and eventually came to Portugal, where I delved into the language of filmmaking and became a seamstress of images“.

Her passion for visual arts, photography, and cinema led her to approach new ways of experimentation, starting from analogue LOMO photography to scanner photography, and from video editing to live video jamming.
