What You’ll Learn in This Pottery Workshop in Porto
We start at the very beginning, exploring the full ceramic process before moving to hands-on practice at the wheel.
Introduction to Ceramics

Types of clay and glazes
-
Understanding high-temperature firing
-
How clay becomes a functional or artistic object
Wheel Throwing Practice
Each participant works on their own pottery wheel and learns:
-
Preparing and wedging clay
-
Centering clay on the wheel
-
Pulling basic shapes
You may create a cup, glass, or bowl - or simply enjoy experimenting, failing, and starting again.
There is no pressure here. A crooked cup or an unusual bowl is always welcome.
Glazing & Finished Pieces
At the end of the workshop:
-
You’ll choose your preferred glaze
-
We take care of firing and finishing
Each participant receives two finished ceramic pieces, ready for collection 2–3 weeks later.
We use stoneware clay and high-temperature firing, making your pieces suitable for everyday use. A cup made with your own hands carries a different weight, presence, and meaning.

Everyday functional ceramics
-
The beauty of imperfection
-
Handmade uniqueness
Influenced by Eastern ceramic traditions and his Latin American roots, Francisco’s daily practice connects body and mind through clay. Today, he combines artistic work with producing ceramics for cafés and restaurants in Porto, Portugal, constantly experimenting with clays, glazes, and techniques.
