Ceramic Workshop "Learn Traditional Pottery of Buño" with Pablo in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain
Pablo De Risco invites you to his Ceramic Workshop "Learn Traditional Pottery of Buño" at his ceramic studio in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain.
Pablo’s ceramic studio is a space where he works and teaches the traditional technique of Buño pottery, as it was done already in the 16th century, using the same process and tools.
The clay you use in the ceramic class comes from the same exploitation that previous generations worked with and enjoyed.
Always starting with a walk through the pieces Pablo has in the studio, he takes the opportunity to explain what pottery is and how it is extracted, prepared, worked, and fired, marking the points that differentiate his technique from other places.
Once you have prepared your ceramic pieces, Pablo does a small demonstration on a traditional potter's wheel, standing up, and then you repeat all together the same steps, this time with your hands in the clay. :)
At Pablo’s ceramic studio you design and create with ceramics.
With roots in the traditional pottery of Buño, and training as an industrial designer, Pablo likes to move between the product and the free work.
Using the potter's wheel whenever possible, and complementing it with different techniques and tools, he enjoys careful lines and proportions, and shows you how to do so during his ceramic workshop.
About the artist:
"As a child, I spent hours watching the potters in my village work on the potter's wheel, especially my uncle, until I was 12 years old, when I was able to try my hand at it on my own.
At 15 I was offered to be in charge of the summer workshop, during the pottery fair (my 2 favorite weeks of the year) where I repeated every year until I was 27.
In between, I trained as an Industrial Design Engineer and traveled to different countries to study and live, always with an eye on the craftsmanship and design of each new culture that welcomed me.
First in Malta, then Poland, and finally in Australia, where I decided to turn to ceramics and combine industrial design with the artistic freedom of my favorite material."
