Atelier d'art de vannerie traditionnelle de l'Algarve "Empreita de Palma" avec Ysaline à Aljezur, Portugal

Wonderful workshop. Ysa is so knowledgeable and has such a wonderful story to share and before you know it you got from a pile of dried palm fronds to an adorable basket. Highly recommend!

Had a wonderful time with Ysaline. We were warmly greeted with a hug and quickly felt like we were old friends. Ysaline was a great teacher and host and so easy to talk to. She shared details with us of her very interesting life and how she came to learn these talents of traditional basket weaving. We learned about her time and travels in Amazon, locally in Portugal and details about procuring the fronds and then of course, we each made a lovely wee basket. I wish I could return again!

We had a lovely afternoon learning about the history, tradition and technique of basketry.
Ysa made us feel very welcome at her cosy home in the countryside.
She is a professional, very patient and pleasant teacher. She led us through the mistery of braiding with a steady hand. Deeply calming,

Wir haben am Workshop bei Ysa teilgenommen und waren begeistert. Von Anfang an haben wir uns sehr willkommen gefühlt. Die Atmosphäre war entspannt und angenehm. Ysa erklärt alles verständlich und mit viel Geduld, so dass wir auch als Anfänger Erfolgserlebnisse hatten. Besonders schön fanden wir, wie sie ihre Begeisterung für das Naturmaterial vermittelt. Ihre eigenen Werke sind inspirierend, und es war toll, von ihr zu lernen. Ein wirklich bereichernder Workshop – absolut empfehlenswert!

What an amazing workshop!
Ysaline is very patient, she explains in a calm and passionate way and has many stories to tell.
Not only did she teach us about the techniques but she also shared her stories about her stay in Brazil and now Portugal where she learned many different original weaving techniques from the locals.
This workshop is more than only weaving with dried leaves or recycled rope. It's also about taking the time to lose yourself into your handwork and to have deep conversations with the other participants.
I definitely recommend it, and believe me I am not the 'patient' type but I still managed to make a really nice little basket with the help of Ysaline.

Great workshop to get back in touch with your creativity. Ysaline starts with a little explanation about the history of ‘empreita de palma’ and how she harvests and treats the leaves. After, she teached us how to make a little basket. Her enthusiasm and bubbly energy made it a relaxing and overall lovely experience.

So much fun! Making your own little basket from
raw materials, the original portuguese way, leaves you with a sense of connection to this area, pride and a souvenir that you’ll forever cherish. Revisiting traditional artisan
ways gives you a new sense of appreciation for ‘things’
and works really grounding to your system. Ysaline is a passionate & fun guide, really sharing her heart in this workshop. It is an experience that’s not to be missed, I’ve I don’t think there’s anything quite like it elsewhere.
