In this immersive 2 day weekend week course, we’ll explore the technique of coiling to create large-scale ceramic forms, creating striking sculptural pieces to functional vases and vessels. Through one-on-one hands-on guidance, you’ll learn how to work with clay on a larger scale, mastering structural integrity, balance, and surface development. We’ll dive into form, texture, and finishing techniques while pushing the limits of hand-built ceramics.
Whether you’re new to large forms or ready to expand your practice, this course offers a supportive environment to experiment and create unique, personal works. Walk away with the skills and confidence to build big!

Techniques Covered:
• Coiling for large-scale forms: building height and volume with stability
• Creating coils with an extruder
• Creating coils with an extruder
• Managing clay moisture for slow builds and preventing cracks
• Structural planning for sculptural and functional forms
• Surface techniques: smoothing, carving, and mark-making
• Additive and subtractive approaches to surface detail

Booking time: 2-3 Weeks in advance
Days: Friday & Saturday or Saturday & Sunday (5 hours each day)
Please note:
Work will be available 2-3 weeks after the course. You will get to choose from a wide range of glazes and the instructor will glaze the work for you. The studio is in an apartment with cats, so if you are allergic, please be aware.

Keegan Luttrell is a multi-media artist based in Berlin, working with ceramics and hand-building since 2016. With a background in sculpture, Keegan’s ceramic practice centers on the exploration of vulnerability and strength, combining ancient techniques like pit firing with contemporary forms. Her work focuses on the intricate balance between functionality and artistic expression, creating large-scale, sculptural vessels that speak to the fragility and resilience of the human experience. Through her innovative use of hand-building techniques, Keegan continues to expand her ceramic practice, sharing her knowledge and passion with others through workshops and courses.
