"I’ll be here when you’re gone"

This photograph was inspired by the artist Katherine Masters' love for the sea and her desire that this land will continue to be protected. These dunes overlook the waves she surfs. They are situated in an area of greater Lisbon where the coast is wild. People who come here are always amazed by the raw beauty of this area.

On the day Katherine photographed this project, there were very few people around, the wind was blowing very strongly and it was a very spiritual and peaceful practice to be alone in this magical place.

Guincho, Cresmina and Cabo Raso are windswept locations on the Atlantic Coast of Portugal that many consider sacred, but that suffer from the effects of soil erosion and human activity. This photo print is part of the artist's series that imagines these areas after humans have gone.

About the artist:
Katherine Masters is an Anglo-Portuguese fine artist and photographer living in Cascais, a coastal resort town in Portugal, just west of Lisbon. She is a graduate of Goldsmiths University of London and Central Saint Martins. Her artwork focuses primarily on the natural world and the human condition. Working mainly with watercolors, acrylic and photography, she draws upon a contemporary and rich visual language that seeks to investigate themes through the exploration of color.
