3 Days Empreita de Palma Immersion with Ysaline in Aljezur, Portugal

Ysaline invites you for a 3 Days Empreita de Palma Immersion to her home studio in Portugal's beautiful south, in Aljezur.

During three entire days, you have the chance to learn "empreita de palma", the traditional basket weaving technique from the Algarve region.

The goal of the 3 Days Empreita de Palma Immersion is to create your own beautiful basket, similar to the ones you can see on the photos.

Day 1:

10-13h / lunch break / 14-17h

- Introduction about the technique, its history, the picking and drying process.

- Making some try-outs to get familiar with the technique.

- Start of your piece/basket.

Day 2 & 3:

10-13h / lunch break / 14-17h

- Working on your piece/basket.

- During the process you learn some variations, how to turn rope out of palm leaves and relevant ways of finishing.

About the artist: 

Ysaline picks the palm leaves locally and dries them on her roof for a month. She wants to share her knowledge that for centuries has been passed from generation to generation.

Location: On Ysaline's terrace (partly covered), in a quiet valley just outside of Aljezur town.
