Anastasia Sawall is a visual artist from Flensburg, Germany. She discovered her way into the world of fine art rather by accident. In a conversation with another artist, she learned that he started his career as an autodidact and is not a full-time artist at all. That's when she realized that you can also take this path into art.

1. What's the art you're doing?
I would describe my art as abstract, informal and a bit naïve. My pictures are created completely unplanned. I decide spontaneously which colors, which movement, which brushstroke the picture needs at the moment.
2. What's your favorite feeling?
Satisfaction. This feeling of everything fits and you can just let yourself go.
3. What's your favorite word?
Love. Sounds beautiful in any language.
4. What's the best wake-up time for you?
Early and preferably before everyone else. I love being productive in the morning while everything is still quiet inside and out. For a long time now, I've had the habit of getting up at least an hour earlier than I should, simply to be able to start the day as relaxed as possible, without time pressure and stress and with enough time for breakfast.
5. What are you most afraid of?
Spiders :)
6. What's the feeling you like the least?
Impatience. Unfortunately it's far too often part of my everyday life, but I try to catch myself more and more often when something just can't go fast enough for me. Then I always remind myself that I can also enjoy the way to the goal. Especially since the goal is usually only a very short high. It is all the more important to enjoy the entire process.
In my case, this also applies to my art. Most of the time I don't even see the goal when I start a new picture, so it has become all the more important for me to celebrate the way there, and the longer I can do that with a picture, the more beautiful it is.
7. What makes you feel most alive?
People. People with whom I get along with in a wondrous way right away.
People with good intentions. People who are sincere. I think the most important thing in our lives are our interpersonal relationships. When they are right, everything else becomes secondary.
8. What inspires you most?
Both calmness and chaos. I need quietness to be able to be creative at all and chaos to open up new connections. For me personally, there is nothing more exciting than seeing how people furnish their apartments and houses and, above all, which art they choose. I still this "interior voyeurism" by looking at a lot of interior magazines. I especially love AD Italia, Scandinavian Living and ELLE Decoration - my life doesn't work anymore without Readly App :).
9. What do you do when you feel sad?
Read. Write. Talk about it. Paint. Some time ago I had the rule that I only paint when I'm in a good mood. Lately, however, life has gotten in the way far too often, so that I sometimes felt hurt, offended, confused, sad... stood in front of a white canvas - in the end I was amazed of the results, because they weren't as gloomy as I always assumed.
10. Your favorite guilty pleasure?
Reading at least five books at the same time. A lot of people find it odd, I know, but I don't feel exactly the same every day, so every day a different book speaks to me. And I also like to take my time with a book. I feel like I can enjoy it much longer that way.
