This time, we're delighted to interview Rita, a talented textile artist based in Lisbon, Portugal. She creates stunning, one-of-a-kind hand-woven pieces and hosts inspiring Textile Weaving Workshops. Hi Rita! :)
1. What is the art you make?
Weaving! I bring threads to life through colors and textures.
2. How did you find your way to your art?
I fell in love with textiles when I was 15 at my artistic secondary school. From that moment, I knew I had found something special!
3. What is the reason you continue to practice your art?
Over the years, I explored different creative paths, but in 2015, weaving called me back. Now, it's my way of playing with color and texture—it's truly addictive!
4. What is your personal highlight during your entire time as an artist?
Still figuring that one out! Every piece feels like a new achievement.
5. When do you feel most productive?
When I’m surrounded by other creative minds—the energy is contagious!
6. What or who inspires you?
Nature, architecture… honestly, everything!
Inspiration is everywhere if you pay attention.
7. In which "small" things do you find the most joy?
Cutting the threads from the loom—it’s like setting the piece free!
Seeing the final result is always a magical moment.
8. Do you have a vision or goal you are working towards?
Yes! I want more people to discover and appreciate the art of weaving. It’s a treasure that deserves recognition.
9. What is a life well lived for you?
A life where you can enjoy slow mornings, take care of your mind and body, and find inner peace that reflects in everything you do. Plus, tasty food, breathtaking sunsets, nature, and culture - what more could you ask for?
10. What do you do when you feel "stuck"?
I stop everything, head to the sea or nature, and just breathe. Sometimes, doing nothing is the best reset.
11. How do you deal with setbacks?
It depends! But what I should do is take a step back in order to move forward.
12. What is your favorite feeling?
Gratitude and pride - nothing beats the joy of seeing my work come to life.
13. What is your least favorite feeling?
Frustration, hands down.
14. What are you most afraid of?
Losing my calm. Inner peace is everything.
15. What is true freedom for you?
Freedom from rigid concepts and beliefs - freedom of the mind.
16. What is a book you highly recommend (the first one that comes to your mind)?
"The Road Less Travelled" from M. Scott Peck.
17. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole - pure magic.
18. Your favorite guilty pleasure?
I don’t believe in guilt - just consequences after!
