Our September Residency at iSlow Coliving in Galicia, Spain

As the founder of subcultours.com, I am thrilled to share my experience during my recent residency at iSlow Coliving in Laxe, Galicia, Spain, during the whole month of September. This incredible opportunity was made possible thanks to the EU funding program "Culture Moves Europe", which supports artists and entrepreneurs in the creative sector like me in fostering cultural exchange and collaboration.

Culture Moves Europe

Empowering Artisans in A Costa Da Morte, Galicia, Spain

During my time in Galicia, my primary goal was to provide more international exposure to the talented local artisans of A Costa Da Morte by integrating them into the subcultours platform. By connecting these artisans with travelers from around the world, I aim to offer them a chance to host creative workshops, sharing their skills and cultural knowledge in an authentic, hands-on setting. This initiative not only provides an additional income stream for them but also allows visitors to immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Galicia, Spain.

Creating Sustainable Opportunities

My goal during the whole month of September was focused on building a sustainable network that highlights the importance of local artisans in the region of Galicia. By featuring their workshops on subcultours, I hope to promote their crafts and preserve Galician cultural heritage. This initiative ensures that these skilled artists and artisans can continue their work while gaining global exposure and fostering meaningful cultural exchanges.

The Power of In-Person Connections

The mobility grant I received has been invaluable for my work in Galicia. Being physically present in A Costa Da Morte allowed me to connect with artists and artisans face-to-face, fostering trust and collaboration. Meeting them in their studios and workspaces gave me a deeper understanding of their challenges and needs, which I can address through targeted support on the subcultours platform.

This personal interaction also enabled me to explore their creative processes and refine workshop concepts tailored to travelers seeking unique cultural experiences.

Content Creation for Greater Visibility

Another critical aspect of my residency was helping local artisans create high-quality content—photos and videos—to enhance their workshop profiles on subcultours. Well-crafted content showcases their work and makes the workshops more appealing to potential customers. By supporting them in this way, I ensure that their stories and skills shine through, building trust and confidence in our collaboration.

Strengthening the Network: iSlow Coliving and subcultours

My residency at iSlow Coliving has also marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership between our platform and the local community. Collaborating with the iSlow team, I aim to establish a strong network of artists, artisans, and cultural institutions in Galicia, ensuring their work gains the appreciation it deserves on a global scale.

By connecting international visitors with local artisans through subcultours, we’re not only celebrating Galicia’s rich cultural heritage but also contributing to the region’s long-term economic sustainability. Travelers who engage in these workshops are not just learning new skills—they’re supporting local communities and preserving artistic traditions.

A Bright Future for Galicia’s Artisans

The ultimate goal of my residency was to lay the foundation for a lasting network of creative talent that continues to thrive beyond my stay in A Costa Da Morte. By providing artisans with the tools, knowledge, and platform to promote their work internationally, I am helping to ensure that Galicia’s cultural heritage is celebrated and preserved for future generations.

This partnership has the potential to create meaningful change for the region’s artists and artisans, offering them new opportunities for growth and visibility. As subcultours expands, so will the global reach of Galicia’s unique culture and craftsmanship.
